Mai Trading was formed in 1999 with the aim of importing the sort of items people see in museums, hotels and shops and are either impossible to buy or too large to transport. We spend on average one month each year driving in remote areas of Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Burma (Myanmar) gradually buying items to fill a container.
Mai trading specialises in Burmese lacquer from small boxes up to large temple decorations, antique wood carving from Burma and Thailand, silk and textiles from Laos and ancient pottery, bronze and jewellery from Thailand, Cambodia and Viet-Nam (including Ban Chiang ware and Buri Ram pottery) .
Some items are specially made for us and some such as the necklaces made of ancient glass beads are restrung to our design however the great majority of stock is collected as we find it and is often a surprise to us |
